Positive Recovery
Presented by Dr. Jason Z.W. Powers
Positive Recovery, a new approach that combines empiric data from positive psychology, wisdom of traditional recovery, and effective relapse prevention techniques to help clients prevent a relapse and thrive in recovery. Advances in the new field of positive psychology have expanded approaches to building resources that lead to flourishing such as positive affect, healthy relationships, and character building.
Positive Recovery can be the next significant solution to our broken treatment system. Relapse rates are too high both during and soon after treatment. Recovery involves more than just abstinence: it is a life with elements such as meaning, success, happiness, and healthy relationships.
Positive psychology is not self-help. Rather it uses empiric research to discover the answers to the question, “what is the best way to live?” and only when life is more rewarding and fulfilling than the promise of a relapse do people maintain good, long-lasting recovery.
